Color of Clothing Usually Worn
The color of clothing normally worn by the ancient roman's were based mostly upon class. Lower classes usually wore plain colors. Higher classes usually wore bright colors.
Perfumes
Rich women in ancient Rome wore perfumes. There were kept both at home and at the public baths. It was stored in jars and small glass bottles called unguentaria. Perfumes were made of flowers, spices and animal scents mixed with honey, oil or lard. Salt helped preserve perfumes. Blush was made from red ochre or dregs (solid waste) of red wine.
Make up
A popular skin cream was taken from sheep's. It was made of sweat and dirt taken from sheep's wool. Woman rich and poor wore makeup. They lined their eyes with black charcoal they also used saffron, dried berries and chalk to make face powder, rouge and eye shadow. Woman had boxes that were used to put makeup in. Some wealthy woman had slaves put on make up for them.
